Sudden impacts such as car / motorcycle accidents, falling off a ladder and other traumatic injuries are considered jolts. They are shockwaves, so to speak, that change the strength of signals within our system. Some signals become weaker, which can cause pain and stiffness to occur, while other signals diminish so much that movement can stop altogether.
Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, in his lifelong study of movement, found that you can strengthen signals through your nervous system. As a physicist, mechanical engineer, and judo master, he realized through the exploration of his own knee injury that by slowing down movement, we can start to strengthen these signals; function starts to increase while pain dissipates. Try lying on the floor for twenty minutes, knees bent if that's more comfortable, and see how you feel after your nervous system stabilizes. This can rejuvenate the nervous system and make you feel better after a long day. We add specific slow, small movements to increase movement patterns and relieve pain; it is simple and easy to do
While traditional therapies can help, it is very difficult to gain the connections needed through your nervous system so you can achieve a higher level of functioning without pain.
