I was in so much pain I couldn’t sit, lay down on my back, side or stomach for very long. Linda explained that she could help me feel comfortable and that I didn’t need to worry. She worked on me very slowly; I could feel my breathing increase as she worked. Then at one point in the session she shifted my ribcage what felt like a quarter inch to one side without cracking it, a large breath followed making me feel so much better. At the end of the session I started to walk and was shocked to feel movement in my hips and lower back that I hadn’t felt in years. This method has changed my life.

What is Functional Integration®?

Functional Integration® is a specialized aspect of the Feldenkrais Method®. Each individual session is comfortable and unique to your particular needs. Through the use of slow gentle movements the brain absorbs information and learns.  A history of holding patterns will release giving room for increased movement while at the same time releasing pain. Once the neuromuscular education takes place different areas of the body such as the neck, shoulders, back, pelvis, knees, ankles and jaw will start to integrate with each other.  This gives the whole body a sense of movement that will work in unison.  There are different types of pain we work with such as headaches, chronic pain and tension, fibromyalgia and more. We also work with people that have neurological difficulties, mobility issues, and coordination and balance issues.  If you do not see your condition on our website please don’t hesitate to call, chances are we will be able to help you.

How does it work?

A skilled practitioner understands how to move the body in slow precise ways allowing the brain to pay close attention.  We take over the work of large and small holding patterns in the body. This gives the brain time to learn and recover movement that has been lost, relieving pain in the process. New neural pathways are opened making movement smooth and at the same time improve your self-image. Posture becomes better, breathing is enhanced and movement becomes fluid.

Can anyone receive this type of session?

The good news is yes! Anyone at any age can receive a Functional Integration® session.  Most of us feel we are in good condition, yet every person needs to understand how to increase and maintain movement as we age. Impacts happen throughout our lives physically and emotionally. Everyone should try at the very least one session. Knowing the information and feeling a session is very important for your future needs and options. Each session is very different from the last session. These sessions are high levels of sensory nervous system learning and can affect you positively in many different ways. The actual movements during two consecutive sessions may seem a lot alike but we promise you that different areas of your system are learning at all times.
